Russell Smith from London stumbled across the fact that the world record for “Longest distance space hopping in 24 hours” was 4.1 miles. He could not resist attempting to beat it and decided upon combining the event with his birthday.
Less than a fortnight until the attempt Russell purchased the 66cm Red Retro Space Hopper from http://www.space-hoppers.co.uk and started raising money for Balls to Cancer.
The 1.3 mile route was measured around St James park which goes along The Mall, Birdcage Walk & Horse Guards Road. Starting at 1am in the morning the laps started until he had travelled 4.2 miles. It took approximately 14 hours to complete.
